The Galician Network of Biomaterials (RGB) was established in 2014 within the framework of the Programme for the Consolidation and Structuring of Competitive Research Units of the University System of Galicia, promoted by the Galician Government.
At present, six research groups from the Universities of Vigo and Santiago de Compostela are part of it. These groups are linked to the biomedical research institutes of Galicia and maintain a close relationship with the main hospital university complexes. In this way, the current demand to promote the relationship between research groups and health centers, which are first and foremost those who best know the patient’s care needs, is covered.
The groups that make up the Galician Network of Biomaterials have a high level of research activity, with experience in the development, innovation and transfer of technology in the field of biomaterials. The rapid advance of this discipline now requires an interdisciplinary approach to be competitive, a condition that the scientific community in this field in Galicia fulfills thanks to the constitution of this network. In which groups of 2 types are integrated:
They are specialists in the manufacture of biomaterials and nanotechnologies with biomedical applications
They are experts in in vitro techniques for biological evaluation of biomaterials, in vivo tests in animal models, cell therapies and clinical trials.
