Universidad de Vigo and Biomedical Research Institute (IBI)
Their work is based on nanomaterials and nanochemistry. They fabricate multifunctional nanoparticles which are capable of combining diagnosis and treatment by the administration of drugs to the organism or nanoparticles with sensorial properties which allow them to diagnose tissue even on a molecular scale. This would make the detection of cancer or Alzheimer’s possible even in the very early stages of the disease.
Their most recent line of research is into nano-reactors, particles which can be introduced into a cell and activated in order to perform pre-programmed functions therein, such as drug release.
